Thanks for stopping by and giving me another chance to defend people who were inspired by Mary Daly to do good for humanity.

Yeah, sorry about that. There's nothing wrong with people being inspired by Mary Daly to do good for humanity anyway.

Your first line is speculating on what a lot of "them" reckon is wrong with Liss' post.

Let me be more specific: Voz, Criss, Just Some Trans Guy, xpanasonicyouthx, and Genderbitch, for a start. (Also, some other people chimed in within the comments later on that blog post.)

Finally, notice a few of things about the update Melissa McEwan wrote: (a) it's right down at the bottom of the post, (b) it's much, much shorter than the huge glowing quote from the Globe obit, and (c) it uses language like "unfortunately marred by a streak of transphobia".makomkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00266600558871564196noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6930445412420969933.post-36774458935467386302010-01-09T11:08:28.315-05:002010-01-09T11:08:28.315-05:00Who's? As you can imagine, as a transsexual woman who ironically has suffered at the hands of people who's views of trans women were shaped by Daly's work, this has been a lifelong dream of mine.

makomk, here's the third line of my post:
[Daly's] work and its legacy is continuing source of harm to a lot of transsexual people, notably transsexual women. In other words, we're both right.
--

However, the reason a lot of people are really unhappy with Melissa McEwan's post is that they reckon it really doesn't do justice to the damage Daly has done. It's basically a post about how wonderful she was, with just a little footnote about how she sometimes wasn't so wonderful.

Your first line is speculating on what a lot of "them" reckon is wrong with Liss' post. Thanks for owning up to your own opinion in the second sentence. I've noted it's disingenuity.

Melissa simply posted that Daly died, and quoted an obit from the Boston Globe. When multiple people noted Daly's transphobia, Liss wrote a lengthy update, with links, stated that she had been unaware of this aspect of Daly's work, and in the thread encouraged commenters to discuss Daly's transphobia.

When you work out the ideal ratio of "wonderful" to "wasn't so wonderful" (really?) do let the internet know. I'd hate to think that people were addressing a complex human being in a way that minimizes the known fact that she was evil incarnate.eastsidekatehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07375011642061094187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6930445412420969933.post-86013261865020897822010-01-09T10:25:54.668-05:002010-01-09T10:25:54.668-05:00Curiously, there seems to be a very plausible argu...Curiously, there seems to be a very plausible argument that Mary Daly is responsible for a hell of a lot of the transphobia and trans-misogyny in ecofeminism even today.

(As for the rest, it's really not my place to comment. However, the reason a lot of people are really unhappy with Melissa McEwan's post is that they reckon it really doesn't do justice to the damage Daly has done.
